New sauropod species named 'Last Titan' identified in Thailand

Southeast Asia has historically yielded fewer large dinosaur finds than neighboring regions such as China and Mongolia, partly due to differences in fossil preservation and the extent of sustained paleontological fieldwork. Thailand has nonetheless produced notable dinosaur discoveries over recent decades, establishing it as a meaningful site for Asian prehistoric research. Sauropods were among the largest land animals in Earth's history, and titanosaur-related lineages persisted into the late Cretaceous before the mass extinction event approximately 66 million years ago. Researchers say the new find suggests that giant sauropod lines survived and diversified in Southeast Asia later than previously recognized.
