Nickolay Mladenov is a former United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process with extensive experience in regional diplomacy. The Board of Peace is a multilateral body mediating the Israel - Gaza conflict alongside other international actors including Qatar, Egypt, and the United States. Ceasefire negotiations have stalled repeatedly over disputes about post-war governance and the status of Hamas as both a governing authority and an armed faction. Hamas disarmament has become a central sticking point, with Israel treating it as a non-negotiable condition and Hamas rejecting terms it views as amounting to its elimination.
