Russia Launches Mass Drone Attack on Ukraine, Killing at Least Six

Russia has conducted recurring large-scale drone and missile strikes against Ukrainian cities and infrastructure throughout the war, which began with a full-scale invasion in February 2022. Attacks reaching western Ukraine - closer to NATO's eastern flank - have drawn particular scrutiny given their proximity to alliance territory. Ukrainian air defenses have intercepted significant portions of prior drone waves, but saturation tactics using large numbers of low-cost drones have continued to produce civilian casualties. Diplomatic efforts to broker a ceasefire have not produced a durable agreement as of mid-2026. Both sides have continued offensive operations while international calls for negotiations have intensified.
